Poker Night F.A.Q.

  • The game is No Limit Texas Hold’em poker, Sit N Go style. Basically that means a one table tournament.

  • A great resource to start is this video here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9HYxquQt-M

  • The hands are listed here: https://www.wsop.com/poker-hands/

I will have a poker hand cheat sheet available for each player as well, so you don’t need to memorize them before we play.

  • Everyone puts $20 into the pot, up to 6 people will play.

  • There is no house rake. I am not running a casino. This is just for fun.

  • With 6 people playing, 1st place gets $60, 2nd place gets $40, and 3rd place gets $20.

  • Everyone starts with 5000 chips.

  • Yes, you can buy-in a second time until the 3rd blind level. Note: you are not required to buy-in again. All second buy-ins are added to the pot.

  • You are considered eliminated from the tournament. You are free to watch the action, or start another unofficial non-cash game with other eliminated players.

  • No, you cannot cash your chips out. They have no value.

  • Yes, you can still join the game, but you do not get additional chips to match with the current stacks.

  • In order to keep the game moving and ensure we finish within about 2 hours, we will raise the blinds every 10 minutes.

  • The smallest best that can be laid down in any hand is the big blind.

This means if the blinds are 25/50, during any point in that hand, the smallest bet will be 50.

  • Yes, if you have enough chips to cover the All In bet, you would start a side pot with any other remaining players.

If the original All In player wins the hand, they can only win the amount that was in the original pot. The other players who were in the side pot would decide who has the strongest hand between them, and then this person would win the side pot.

  • I’ve modified a recent WSOP blind schedule to finish our game in 2 hours. the blinds double every 15 minutes and we add in an ante at level 3. This is aggressive, but it does allow is to finish within a couple hours.

    Level 1 - 25 SB/50 BB - No Ante

    Level 2 - 50/100 - No Ante

    Level 3 - 100/200 - 25 Ante

    Level 4 - 200/400 - 50

    Level 5 - 400/800 - 100

    Level 6 - 800/1600 - 200

    Level 7 - 1600/3200 - 400

    Level 8 - 3200/6400 - 800

  • You are! We will rotate dealers with each hand on the button. We will have two decks in motion, so we should always have a deck shuffled and ready to go.

  • I have an automatic shuffler. It’s not as fast as hand shuffling, but it gets the job done.

  • We will start playing at 7pm and crown a champion when there is one player left standing. I’ll arrange the blinds to finish the tournament in 2 hours.

  • Every hour we have a scheduled break for 10 minutes, but the group can decide to break between hands.

During the break we will also chip up to remove the 25 chips from play.

  • Yes, I will have snacks available during breaks. Please feel bring to bring something if you have a preference.

  • No, poker etiquette generally has a ‘no food at the poker table’ rule to keep the cards, chips, and surface clean. If you want to eat, you are welcome to eat away from the poker table between breaks.

  • Drinks are allowed and coasters are provided. I’ll have something to drink, but please feel free to bring something if you have a preference.

  • No, this is a non-smoking game.

  • Please try to leave between hands to minimize disruptions to the game. We will wait for you to return.

  • We are playing according to the rules used by the WSOP:

    https://www.wsop.com/poker-games/texas-holdem/rules/

If there is a discrepancy, I will represent the “floor” and make a final ruling.

  • No. Big Lou out front ensures that everyone plays fairly. I’m kidding, but please play fair.

  • The current setup can only accommodate 6 people. Please check with me before bringing along any friends.

  • Any monetary donations will be used to upgrade our gaming experience with more or better cards, chips, and tables to support larger games and tournaments. Of course, if you want to bring a bottle of something nice to share, that is always appreciated.
